Task 2

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) is an adventure/fantasy film which was directed by Tim Burton. The film is an adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl. The film follows a boy called Charlie bucket and his Grandpa Joe, as they join a small group of contest winners who win a tour of the strange and magical factory of famous candy maker Willy Wonka. With the help of his Oompa Loompas, Willy Wonka had a secret prize that one of the contest winners could win.

I enjoyed watching the film, however did not really engage with the film. I found the film a little boring. I think the target audience for the film would be a younger age, for example families, maybe with children aged 7 - 15 years old. There is a lot of things that feature in the film, that would help the audience enjoy the film more (audience gratification). For example, as the film is targeted at families with younger children, the children would be able to relate to the idea of candy.

The Green Mile (1999) is a fantasy/crime/drama film which was written and directed by Frank Darabont. the film was an adaption of the book written by Stephen King. Paul Edgecomb (played by Tom Hanks) was a prison guard who walked 'The Mile' (term for convicts who were were given the death sentence). One day a new convict named John Coffey (played by Micheal Clarke Duncan) was walked into the prison for murdering two young girls even though he did not have the personality for it. But he was unlike no other. After a while, Coffey begins to show signs of supernatural powers.

The Green Mile is one of my all time favourite films, partly as my favourite actor Tom Hanks plays the main character. Although the film is very long (3 hours 9 minutes), there is always something going on to keep the reader intrigued. In my opinion, i would say the target audience for the film is mostly adults, or anyone who has read the book.
